Welcome to the section that reflects upon and shows examples of my recent journalistic efforts. I’ve broken down the articles into three main sections, Business & Tech, LGBT and General Interest pieces as they’re the three areas I tend to focus upon. Feel free to check out the drop-down sections above.
My background as a journo came from my first real job, ok, grown-up job, after leaving school as a Photographer and PR representative in the Royal Navy. After leaving the forces, I completed formal training through the UK’s City & Guild scheme as a photojournalist working with EMAP and the Mirror Group. I spent a number of years as a paparazzi and sports photographer in Ireland before opting to refocus on both the written and the visual story. I’m a member of the UK’s National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and follow their code of conduct and ethics (we really do have standards!).
As a freelance writer I am often sat at my desk trying to map out my next article, what the hook is and who my target audience are. I split my time between self-driven pieces and those commissioned by others. What I show on my website reflects only the pieces that I have driven myself. If I’m commissioned I like to reflect my clients use of the articles I provide.
I believe in the concept that an individual has a role to play in society that is bigger than themselves and I meet my obligations providing voluntary PR, writing and capture services for charities and community organisations. As an Intersex female, I provide a lot of my time to the local and international LGBT groups.
